District Commander Miller on the Importance of the Internet
As the years roll on, and I slide deeper into Decrepitude and Geezerhood, I am totally amazed at how the world is evolving electronically and what it could mean to Canadian Power and Sail Squadron.
I recently noticed on another web site that a gentleman and his spouse were taking the Boating Course, he for some reason was unable to attend one of the sessions. No Problem! He watched from her lap top thru Skype! Would you have believed that a decade ago?
With the advent of Kobo and other e-readers, perhaps our courses will be offered on line, and downloaded by the student at home. This would save thousands of dollars in printing costs, and hopefully a saving at the Squadron level. Imagine not having to order in advance either the Student notes or homework folders, you would always have the correct amount. How simple it would be when advised of an addendum, simply download it and replace the page. Think of it no more 10% restocking fees! No more shipping charges! This will eventually happen.
Now that the P.C.O.C. is going to be offered on line, once successful will our other courses be offered as well?
In the near future (now that I am settling into the role of District Commander) I have a few pet projects in mind for our web site, that will involve Training and Administration, please check the web site as things start to come together.
We must be proactive in our postings on the site!
